The architectural alteration came with an intention to break up the divided and closed off spaces of the original house. We proposed to open up the side wall of the central stairs which originally separated all spaces. Instead, the side wall is replaced by a semi see-through green and book wall; a slit void is created on the 1st floor to let this green and book wall grows towards upper floor and creates more connectivity within spaces.
We propose to plant herbs and vegetables on the green wall to enhance healthy home gastronomic experience. A central island kitchen with retractable dining is designed to take the center stage; Free flowing potted garden and vertical edible garden are framing this center piece. Moving, sitting, cooking and socialising around the center piece would feel like being within a garden.
